The Plated Copper-Alloy Volcano Heater Block:

These blocks are engineered for ultimate high temperature performance. Made from a special high temperature copper-alloy with a softening point of well above 500C (compared to aluminium blocks which begin to lose integrity beyond 350°C), and much-increased thermal conductivity these copper blocks are perfect for high temperature applications while working perfectly with everyday filaments like PLA, ABS and spoolWorks EDGE.

In addition to high temperature performance these blocks have an advanced nickel based plating, this plating considerably reduces the adhesion of plastic to the block. This is great for everyday filaments keeping things clean and shiny, but is particularly important at temperatures above 300°C where a silicone sock can't be used.

Why Copper? Copper has more than 3x the thermal conductivity of brass, and the copper alloy we use has been hardened and treated to reduce the oxidation that occurs in copper at high temperatures. A small side effect is that the copper's higher thermal conductivity will also slightly increase your heat-up times, but it can provide tighter temperature control as well.

This copper-alloy is very temperature resilient, and will not start to soften or anneal until way beyond 500°C. It's perfect for the high-temperature printing that aluminium heater blocks can't handle.

Another fine Benchmark Atlas.
Format: Spiral-bound
We travel a lot and own 6 benchmark atlases now. They're the finest on the market and include camping and fishing information and show the forest service and other backroads. What's special about the British Columbia atlas is that it is spiral bound. I just replaced my Oregon atlas after 20 years because the cover had ripped up and torn off and the pages were falling out. I hope they will all be spiral bound from now on.

Another good Benchmark Atlas
Format: Spiral-bound
We camp frequently and own all of the Benchmark Atlases. Although, this is different due to Canadian laws, we are excited to try it out! Very detailed with information, such as small campgrounds and identifying land ownership (Forest services or BLM)

Memories of the Camino
Format: Paperback
First off, I have to say that my husband and I know Angela, the author. We met her because she is a neighbor of my sister, living in Hawaii. We discovered that she planned to walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostela the same year we were (2016) ! On a visit to Hawaii, we met with Angela and did a little local hike together. She was so enthusiastic and had prepared well. We, too, had been reading up and watching videos, getting suggestions as to what to bring, how to deal with physical issues and weather, what to pack and what not to pack, etc. Still, for anyone doing the Camino - whether the WHOLE 500 miles or doing the required 100 km to get the certificate at the final destination: Santiago de Compostela, Spain - it is a very personal endeavor. Reading Angela Leslee's book gives you the personal story of her "camino," and it is captivating. The changes that take place in her life - the discoveries she makes, the people she meets, the failures she feels, the fears, the habits that get broken (such as food choices!) - all make for an adventure that is life-changing and an interesting read. For anyone considering this pilgrimage, because that's what it is, this book will inspire you. You don't need to be part of a "group." You don't need a lot of plans. You do need to be prepared to be changed. The memory for myself and my husband is that it is the best shared experience we have had together in our 50 years of marriage! Angela's book brought back so many wonderful memories for us. I highly recommend this book.
