The good news: a complete bolt-on upgrade kit exists that brings your cooling system up to 86 Series standards, with a modern Sanden compressor at the heart of it.
What's Included in the Kit (SKU: QFS-990-3566)
This kit is a comprehensive, all-in-one solution. Everything you need for a complete conversion is in the box:
- Sanden Conversion Kit — replaces the original York or Tecumseh compressor with a modern, efficient Sanden rotary compressor
- 86 Series Evaporator — updated evaporator core matched to the new system
- 86 Series Condenser and Line Kit — upgraded condenser with all necessary lines and fittings
- 86 Series Oil Cooler — keeps hydraulic temps in check alongside the A/C upgrade
- Mounting Brackets — bolt-on fitment, no fabrication required
- Belt — sized for the Sanden compressor
- Thermostatic Switch — controls evaporator temperature to prevent freeze-up
- Condenser Mounted Binary Switch — protects the system from high/low pressure extremes

Why Upgrade to the 86 Series A/C System?
The original 66 Series A/C systems used older York or Tecumseh piston compressors — heavy, inefficient, and increasingly difficult to source parts for. The Sanden rotary compressor used in this kit offers several key advantages:
- Lighter weight — less parasitic load on the engine
- More efficient cooling — better heat exchange at lower RPMs, which matters during field work
- R134a compatible — works with the modern, readily available refrigerant standard
- Widely serviceable — any shop with modern A/C equipment can service a Sanden system
Installation Notes
This is a bolt-on kit designed for the 66 to 86 Series conversion — no custom fabrication is required. However, as with any A/C conversion, we recommend:
- Flushing the system thoroughly before installing new components
- Replacing all O-rings with HNBR (green) O-rings compatible with R134a
- Using the correct PAG oil for the Sanden compressor — do not mix with old mineral oil
- Having the system evacuated and recharged by a certified technician with R134a equipment
