We Had Sneakers, They Had Guns: The Kids Who Fought for Civil Rights in MississippiNo one experienced the 1964 Freedom Summer quite like Tracy Sugarman. No one experienced the 1964 Freedom Summer quite like Tracy Sugarman. As an illustrator and journalist, Sugarman covered the nearly one thousand student volunteers who traveled to the Mississippi Delta to assist black citizens in the South in registering to vote. He interviewed these activists, along with local civil rights leaders and black and white residents not directly involved in the movement, and drew the people and events that made the summer one of the most heroic chapters in America s long march toward racial justice.

In We Had Sneakers, They Had Guns, Sugarman chronicles the sacrifices, tragedies, and triumphs of that unprecedented moment in our nation s history. Two white students and one black student were slain in the struggle, many were beaten and hundreds arrested, and churches and homes were burned to the ground by the opponents of equality. Yet the example of Freedom Summer whites united with heroic black Mississippians to challenge apartheid resonated across the nation. The United States Congress was finally moved to pass the civil rights legislation that enfranchised the millions of black Americans who had been waiting for equal rights for a century.

Blending oral history with memoir, We Had Sneakers, They Had Guns draws the reader into the lives of Sugarman s subjects, showing the passion and naivete of the volunteers, the bravery of the civil rights leaders, and the candid, sometimes troubling reactions of the black and white Delta residents. Sugarman s unique reportorial art, in word and image, makes this book a vital record of our nation s past."

Refunding/giftcards. Thank you
They were nice enough to replace my vacuum even though the battery was defective. They usually don't cover batteries. So it was a great. But they were nice enough to give me a gift card for the whole amount. Thanks

Great Vacuum for Pet Households
Color: Nordic Blue/Space Grey, Style: Miele Guard L1
Excellent vacuum for houses with pets and carpet. It’s outrageously powerful and is light and easy to maneuver around. The color is a perk too, looks great.

Great vacuum
Color: Nordic Blue/Space Grey, Style: Miele Guard L1
Bought this to replace a Dyson, and I love it! Strong suction and super quiet. I was especially interested in this vacuum because of allergies and wanted better filtration to keep dust down, and this succeeded. I got no dust blowing around and the house doesn’t smell like dog after vacuuming. I did buy the Miele hepa filter since that does not come with this vacuum. Great purchase for allergies - Worth the money!

Major purchase! Builds muscle
Color: Nordic Blue/Space Grey, Style: Miele Guard L1
I've had a Miele for 14 years before the powerhead burned up. Decided to invest in a new one as 225 for a powerhead was a gamble on one that old. I like to use a vacuum rather than a dust mop, and I have carpet as well. Did a bit of research and decided this one was the one for me. I did keep my old swivel parquet floor attachment as it fits. haven't used the floor head that came with this one much, so jury is still out. The new powerhead is HEAVY. Takes a while to learn to maneuver it well, but it really gets the deep pile carpet cleaner. Love the longer cord and hose. Overall, happy with the Miele Guard1. The only reason for the 4 stars is because it does take muscle to work the powerhead. Quieter than my old one, which is pleasing to husband.
