Vinyl LP pressing. Seattle quartet Versing got their start in college radio - Tacoma's KUPS. The group's main songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Daniel Salas served as alternative music director there, where he met guitarist Graham Baker, drummer Max Keyes, and bassist Kirby Lochner. Brandishing a coolly combustible brand of rock, the group has risen through Seattle's competitive rock ecosphere with nonchalant élan. They cheekily titled a previous album Nirvana, but Versing isn't emulating Sub Pop's most famous artist. Rather, they're forging an exciting sound that finds a golden mean between lustrous noise and ebullient melody. With Versing, songwriting is obviously crucial, but much of the pleasure in 10000 comes from it's guitar textures. They're swarming, yet also spiky and agile. Gently chiding the Seattle music scene's self-seriousness while acknowledging Versing's playfulness and irony, Salas says, "There's a 'let's just fuck around and see what comes out,' aspect of what we do, which I think is uncommon for Seattle bands." Versing's freewheeling attitude has paradoxically resulted in 10000, an engrossing album that's impossible to feel ambivalent about.

It works!

The Babylonian Empire and the History of Mesopotamia

This is a very, very good book on the History of Mesopotamia. The people of Babylon came up with quadratic equations and trigonometry. They kept a log of the position of the planets, of meteor showers, sun rise and sun set, solar and lunar eclipse. The first ruler of Babylon, Hammurabi, came up with "Hammurabi's Law Code" which was written on a stelae and placed where all could read it. The Babylonian doctors wrote the first book on medicine. Back then doctors did not have hospitals to treat patients, patients were either treated at home or they would go to a clinic where doctors could treat them and several other patients overnight.
The Babylonians created a city that became a pilgrimage destination with many temples. The architecture of the famed "hanging gardens" and several other "world wonders" were all located in Babylon, which aided in making the city a place worth travelling to.
So many first happened in Babylon that the best way to find all of it out is by reading the book, which I highly recomend, you will not be disappointed.
