Michael Namkung is an interdisciplinary artist who explores the intersection of art and athletics in his ongoing project, Drawing Gym. He makes drawings based on the movements of his body and the bodies of others by combining strenuous exercise with traditional drawing instruments. The birth of his son has opened new directions in his practice. Namkung created a monotype printmaking system that allowed his son to make drawings using the pressure of his body to register his movement on the ground. This project, Baby Pictures, is not only a form of Drawing Gym applied to the beginning stages of life, but also a meditation on the artist's attempt to understand his role as a father, and his desire to arrest moments in time as they actively disappear.
